Health Screening

A Bernese Mountain Dog breeder should be able to show you certificates, forms or letters for any health screening that has been completed on the parents of your puppy.   The BMDCC recommends that these clearances should include hips, elbows, and eyes (as a minimum).  Other certifications that are available and may also be done are heart, thyroid,  vWD (a blood clotting disorder).  Some breeders screen for shoulders & hocks abnormalities, as well.

The following is a list of organizations that provide health certifications for various genetic diseases.
